Summary

In Chapter 5, Serenity tells Jenna the police won’t use information from her dream to reopen an investigation about her mother. Jenna asks Serenity how she used to deal with missing person cases when she worked with the police. When she learns that Serenity would retrace the last steps of the person’s life, she suggests to Serenity that they take a drive. They wind up at the Stark Nature Preserve, the land that used to be the New England Elephant Sanctuary. Even though she isn’t happy about it, Serenity begins bushwhacking down the overgrown trail. Jenna asks Serenity if she would tell her if she knew her mother was dead. Serenity describes to her the difference between spirits and ghosts. She explains that dead air on phone lines, computer glitches and other such interferences were all possibly ghosts...
