Rose Hathaway

Rose Hathway is the main character of the novel. Rose is a dhampir, which is a race of guardians responsible for protecting the Moroi race, which is a race of vampires. Rose's best friend is Lissa. Lissa and Rose share a spirit bond, so Rose can see into Lissa's mind because Lissa brought Rose back to life a few years ago. When the novel opens, Rose in prison, accused of murdering Queen Tatiana, queen of the Moroi.

Abe Mazur

Abe Mazur is Rose's father. Abe is also a Moroi. Abe has a reputation for being a serpent, doing underhanded things. Rose, however, believes that it is simply her father's ability to work out situations as necessary.

Adrian

Adrian is Rose's current boyfriend. Adrian is a Moroi and he is also the great-nephew of Queen Tatiana, who Rose is accused of murdering at the opening of the novel...
