Chapter 7 Summary

Summer has arrived. The first week Lynn spends at Amber's house. Mrs. Kanagawa cannot watch Sammy and Katie, so Katie's mother decides they will have to go to work with her. They cannot go inside the building, so they will have to sit in the car for the entire eight-hour shift and the three hours of overtime their mother works.

Katie sits in the dark of the car while they drive to the plant, a full hour from their apartment. She thinks about Mr. Lyndon, the man who owns the plant and the poultry hatchery her father works at. He is very rich, but also somewhat of a mystery because no one has ever really seen him. He is an invisible legend in the county, a rich man who inherited all his money from.....
