Chapter 13 Summary and Analysis

Joni's best friend, Diana White, marries and moves near the Eareckson family ranch where Joni is living with her sister, Jay. Joni's father builds a wing on the house to accommodate the gatherings that Joni and Jay will hold. Joni is spending much of her time with Donald. They go to the ocean, on hiking trails—everywhere normal couples go. Donald always takes everything in his stride and seems to deal easily with Joni's special needs and care. Jay and Diana are still worried that Joni will be hurt if she gets too close to Donald. They even have a talk with Donald about it. Donald tells the worried women that he is falling in love with Joni and feels that they can have a future together.
