Chapter 6 Summary and Analysis

Summary

Joni's friend, Diana White, tells Joni that she is going to drop out of school for a semester so she can volunteer at Greenoaks to help Joni more. Joni is appreciative, of course, but does not want her friend to jeopardize her education. But Diana insists and becomes a great help to Joni and many of the other patients. Diana is also a help to Joni's spiritual life. In their many discussions, Diana never pretends to know the answers but encourages Joni to stay on the path to God. Diana also convinces Joni to try to learn to write with her mouth as the therapists have suggested.

Joni begins working with Chris Brown, her physical therapist, to learn to write. She surprises her therapist by quickly learning to write, albeit a little wobbly and with big letters. She is excited...
