Chapter 97-102 Summary

In Chapter 97, Conner relates how everyone feels accomplished for crossing the rope bridge. Conner at last begins talking with Tony and Vanessa. Conner gets Tony to talk about Phillip, and about how they met. Tony explains they met in the park after Tony had run away from home. Phillip became a gay father figure to Tony.

In Chapter 98, Tony explains to the reader that most people think he's totally gay, so the fact that he didn't sleep with Phillip isn't necessarily expected. Tony also reflects on the idea that unwanted homosexual contact can influence a person later on in his or her life. Vanessa tells Tony she loves him, regardless as to whether he is gay or bisexual or straight, and it makes Tony feel alive. Vanessa says she won't know what real love is until she makes love to Tony...
