Chapter 1 Summary

Stephanie is a bounty hunter who works for her cousin Vinnie's bond company. Stephanie's pay depends on the fugitives she brings in and the amount of their bond. Vinnie has been going through a good spell where all his clients have been appearing in court on time, which is good for Vinnie but not good for Stephanie. Stephanie is desperate to make some money to pay her bills.

Stephanie goes to the office to see if there are any FTAs to go after, but the only one Connie has is Randy Briggs, a computer programmer who was arrested for having a concealed weapon. The contract is only worth seventy dollars to Stephanie, but it's the best she can do for now. Stephanie goes to Briggs' apartment and tells him who she is.
