Chapter 18 Summary

Spencer is watching a crew clean away the debris from the fire while a policeman takes digital photographs. The phone rings with a reporter asking for a statement. Then Melissa and Mrs. Hastings come in whispering about something. Melissa leaves but Spencer asks her mom what they were talking about. Mrs. Hastings asks if Spencer is okay and Spencer lies and says she is.

Spencer wanders to her room. She thinks about how her family and Ali's family always pretended not to know each other. Shortly before Ali disappeared, Ali was making fun of what Mrs. Hastings wear when he bikes and that Ali's parents think Spencer's parents are so showy. Spencer puts the CD in her computer that contains the copy of her father's hard drive. In the J file, Spencer finds two short letters to Jessica DeLaurentis, Ali's mom. One says...
