Summary

Chapter 36 - Sam discovers that earlier in the day, Buddy has killed himself. She goes to talk to Mattie about it, and they both believe that he did it because his family needs the insurance money since he was fired. Sam is torn up, and Mattie gives her a few personal days to get everything sorted out. Sam uses the time to force a meeting between her two parents, explaining everything that has happened, even the documents. Her parents warn her not to get involved in Jeff’s dirty business. They promise to help and support her. Sam is surprised to see them leave together.
