Summary

Act II, Scene IV – Rownie dreams the city is his face. In the morning, he discovers Semele, Thomas, Essa, Nonny, and Patch preparing masks which they will use to walk through the city separately to meet together at the place they will perform that day. Those who follow the actors will become the audience. Rownie is given a fox mask and gloves to wear. Thomas urges Rownie to move the way the mask would prefer him to move. Thomas urges Rownie not to speak anything not written for him by Semele while wearing the mask because he is naturally gifted but untrained to properly use them. The world could change to fit Rownie’s words like a charm or a chant, Thomas reveals. Curses and charms all have consequences. Rownie is warned to run if anyone puts...
