Summary

Act I, Scene VI – Graba possesses all of her grandchildren, called Grubs when under possession, who give chase to Rownie as he flees through Southside. He rushes into the Southside Rail Station, more afraid of Graba’s Grubs than the diggers and ghosts of the tunnel. The Grubs follow. Rownie hides beneath an iron bench while the Grubs search the station and the railcars. As Rownie glances up at the entrance, he finds Vass there, watching him.

Act I, Scene VII – Speaking to Graba through Stubble, Vass says Rownie is nowhere to be found. She also tells Graba the tunnel is not as flooded as it should be. Graba realizes the Lord Mayor must have ordered water pumped out of the tunnels once more. Rownie thanks Vass. Vass explains Graba can’t wear him the way she...
