Arya is living off pigeons and rats in the alleys of Flea Bottom, a suburb in King's Landing. Seeking a way out of the city, Arya is swept along by the crowd to the Great Sept of Baelor where her father will be judged. Eddard proclaims his guilt and swears loyalty to Joffrey, expecting to be given the deal Varys promised. However, Joffrey calls for Eddard's head. Immediately Eddard is beheaded with his own sword. Arya does not see the sword blow because she is caught by Yoren. Yoren cuts her hair and warns her to pretend she is a boy.
