In Chapter 33, Marlowe and Sergeant Galbraith are riding in the car discussing what happened between them at Amthor's home. Marlowe wants to know why Galbraith and Mr. Blane put him into Sonderborg's hospital. The sergeant tells Marlowe that he and Blane took him to Sonderborg because they believed the doctor was an honest man. Amthor knows nothing about the hospital.
