Battle Under Farthen Dyr Summary

Arya wakes Eragon with the news that the Urgals are coming through the tunnel. Eragon jolts awake, and the warriors steel themselves for the oncoming assault. Soon they hear the shouts of the monsters, and the cauldrons of pitch are poured into the holes. The sights and sounds of Urgals being burned sicken Eragon.

The battle begins with archers firing their bows, and Eragon watches, dismayed, at the number of Urgals streaming through the tunnels. Urgals die by the scores, but more and more replace the ones who perish. They impale themselves on stakes and pikes but finally overwhelm the Varden pikemen and surge forward to battle the warriors like Eragon and Saphira behind the pikes. Saphira can tear an Urgal apart with her sword-like teeth or destroy them with her spike-studded.....
