A Costly Mistake Summary

In the morning, Brom and Eragon depart Teirm, saying goodbye to Jeod. As they ride along the walls of the city, Eragon sees Solembum watching them as they leave. Eragon calls out to Saphira, and she arrives, swooshing down from the sky where she picks him up, and they fly away.

Later on, Eragon asks Brom about some of the mysterious "friends" Brom and Jeod had spoken of in Teirm. Brom realizes Eragon had eavesdropped and is annoyed. Eragon points out the coincidences that have occurred since he found Saphira's egg and how Brom appeared at every turn. Brom says that he has been trying to protect Eragon, and that the knowledge could be deadly.

Finally, Brom opens up: "Very well: there is a war raging in Alagalsia between the Varden and the Empire......
