Eragon, a 15-year-old boy is alone in the wilderness in the land of Alagalsia. He is a year away from becoming a man, and he is hunting for food for his family in an area called the Spine. He is hunting for a doe with a bow in the moonlight. He spots the doe and creeps slowly to her. As he is about to strike, an explosion rips through the forest.

Where the explosion hits, the grass smolders in a circle, and the trees are bare of their needles from the blast. Eragon releases the tension on his bow and slowly walks to the site of the explosion. He sees that the cause is a stone. He carefully looks at the stone, touching it with his bow. Finding that it is not dangerous, he picks.....
