Chapters 14-15 Summary

Over lunch, Decker expresses his disappointment at not catching Dickie Lockhart. Skink offers to kill Dickie for Decker, but Decker turns him down. Later, Decker goes to the weigh in and watches as Dickie arrives at the last minute and wins the entire competition, beating out the second place winner, Spurling. When Decker arrives back at the motel, he finds Lanie waiting for him. Lanie has been wrapped in yards of fishing string. Lanie tells Decker that Skink tied her up and left. Lanie is not terribly upset, however. Lanie and Decker spend the afternoon in bed and then drive to New Orleans for dinner. Afterward, Decker leaves Lanie at a hotel and drives back to the lake. Decker takes a less populated route back, hoping to spot Skink. When Decker drives past the dock, he sees that someone has left...
