Summary

Carker is out in the street in Chapter 55, cold, alone and terrified of running into Dombey. He decides to flee back to England where Dombey may be able to find him but at least he will have some comfort and familiarity before he is murdered. He rushes off on horseback and gallops off at full speed, pushed on by his fear of Dombey and his anger at Edith and the world in general. He passes towns and villages, fading past him and all blurring together. He finally makes it back to England after a long and exhausting journey.
