Summary

Back in London in Chapter 28, Carker continues to check up on Florence, who is disturbed by his presence. Susan tells Florence that Carker is in charge of all of Dombey and Son’s business and that Dombey trusts him with everything. She is confused by her reaction to Carker. She still loves her father and cannot understand why he trusts Carker so much. She assumes her instincts about him must be wrong.

Florence continues to miss Walter and pray that he is ok in spite of all the evidence that he has died at sea.

Florence arrives home one day to find it completely under construction inside and out. Florence is very confused but then her father calls her in and tells her he is going to marry Edith. Florence immediately bursts into tears and hugs Edith, wishing them both happiness. Edith hugs...
