7-Eleven

Johnny hangs out at the 7-Eleven with Terry in their Goth makeup and clothing. They get harassed by students who are in Tampa as tourists. Johnny and Terry spend time in the parking lot, a place for those who don't feel they belong anywhere else.

Alcohol

Johnny becomes an alcoholic at an extremely young age. After his drug overdose, he is sent to rehab and he subsequently stays sober. Alcohol has a negative effect on Johnny's life and he works hard to stay clear of it. Johnny's mother also drank excessively during her depression. Though Maria doesn't drink when Johnny meets her, she has a history of drinking.

Tampa

Johnny grows up in Tampa, Florida. He has a regular life there until his father dies when Johnny turns 12. He then spends four years raising himself while his mother's depression shifts all of the household burdens to himself...
