Suitors Summary

Despite her efforts, Miss Rose cannot keep Eliza out of Mama Fresia's tutelage in the kitchen. Rose believes that the only culinary knowledge Eliza needs is just enough to instruct servants, but Eliza thrives in the kitchen and make luscious dishes and breads, which soon become legendary when served at parties in the Sommers' home.

Rose is intent, however, on finding a suitable match for Eliza, since she is now sixteen. She had decided she'll take Eliza to England, if she has not produced a union in two years. Rose set her sights on Michael Steward, a 28-year-old English officer, and puts Eliza in the middle of a whirl of picnics, outings and parties, carefully pairing her daughter with the handsome young man. She sends him back to sea with breads and jams that Eliza made and puts the servants to work making countless dresses for her...
