Chapters 1-2 Summary

Grand Admiral Thrawn orders Gen. Covell's ground troops deployed from the Chimaera to raid smuggler Talon Karrde's base on Myrkr, chiefly to season them. Secretly alerted, Constrainer comes out of hyperspace slightly after Mara, second in command on the Wild Karrde senses danger and acts. Thrawn is recruiting allies with warships and building up the Mount Tantiss operation on Wayland. On Jomark, Jedi Master C'baoth feels an odd tremor in the Force, but senses no personal danger.

Meanwhile, at the Sluis Van Central space station, damaged in an Imperial attack, Luke waits for his X-wing fighter to be repaired and Lando Calrissian waits for medical care. Together they thwart the notorious spaceship thief Niles Ferrier's efforts to collect Thrawn's rich bounty on warships.
