Summary

Chapter 10. Like Water upon Sand

Cecily gets Gabriel to call Will away from Jem’s sickbed and tells him that she knows where Mortmain is. He is in Wales on the mountain, Cadair Idris. The Consul returns, but he is not convinced that Cecily’s guess about Mortmain’s whereabouts is accurate. The Consul refuses to gather a force to go to Cadair Idris and rescue Tessa. When the Consul leaves, he corners Gabriel Lightwood and convinces him to do some spying on Charlotte on his own.

Will is sitting with Jem, debating with himself about what his next move should be, when Magnus arrives. Will speaks with Magnus about his feelings for both Jem and Tessa, expressing his need to go to rescue Tessa, but also his need to remain by Jem’s side as he lay dying. Magnus tells Will to...
