Summary

Chapter 5. A Heart Divided

Will and Tessa go together to see Magnus Bane. Magnus is staying in the home of Woolsey Scott, a werewolf and leader of a local werewolf pack. Woolsey is not pleased to see Will and Tessa, openly teasing Tessa about her love for two men. Magnus, however, is clearly pleased to see Will. Magnus listens to Will’s request for Magnus to help him find a way to save Jem. Magnus reluctantly agrees. Magnus then gives Will a ruby he wears around his neck that will glow when demons are near. Magnus hopes it might also work with Mortmain’s automatons. When Will and Tessa leave, Will expresses his fear for Jem’s life. Magnus also expresses fear, but his is for Will’s future happiness.
