Book Three, Chapter Thirty-six - Chapter Thirty-eight Summary

In Chapter Thirty-six, Levana offers Cinder in exchange for marriage, but Kai refuses, on behalf of his people who would end up as slaves. Kai does promise to keep Cinder locked up until the Lunars leave, and expresses hope peace talks can continue but Levana refuses, shattering her wine glass. Cinder is shocked when her optics pick up Levana's true form behind her glamor. Cinder speaks aloud that the queen really isn't beautiful, and at that, the queen brainwashes Cinder to grasp the guard's gun, and hold it to her own temple. Cinder struggles against it, and ends up firing into the ceiling. Cinder, feelings stronger and more alive as her internal systems are overridden, notices Levana shrink back from her gaze, saying "Impossible." Cinder fires at the queen, whose guard...
