Parkins is a professor at St. James College. He plans to go to the town of Burnstow for work. Parkins does not believe in the supernatural, and is uncomfortable with those who do. A friend asks him to check out a certain site for him when he gets there. Parkins gets to Burnstow, where he is staying in a room with two beds. He goes to the site and finds a small metal object.
