Carrie White

Carrie White is the main character in the story. Carrie White's father died many years ago and Carrie's mother has always thought that Carrie was a curse from God and explains that more than once in Carrie's life she started to kill Carrie. Carrie feels like no one cares for her. She is a target for pranks and jokes at school. Teachers and peers all seem to look at Carrie like she is someone that is pathetic and grotesque.

When Tom asks Carrie to the prom at first Carrie is upset and believes that he is asking her only to play a joke on her. Carrie is so quick to assume that people are out to get her that she never realizes that the pig blood at the prom wasn't necessarily meant for her.
