Point of View

The novel is written in third-person limited, following many characters throughout the novel. The narrator most frequently follows Thomas Hunter, as he is the character who experiences life in both the historical world while he tries to stop the virus and the colored forest where he meets Rachelle, Elyon, and Tanis. However, the narration does occasionally jump to minor characters to talk about events happening while Thomas is asleep. Kara offers insight into her and Thomas’ childhood as she struggles with her own feelings toward faith and religion. Monique gives a perspective of someone who believes Thomas to be insane, before believing him and later offering a look at the antagonists. Carlos shows the antagonists motives, as well as his own desire to cleanse Israel of the Christians he believes are destroying the true faith and gives the audience insight into Svensson’s plans.
