Dirk Pitt, Sr.

Dirk Pitt is the hero of a couple dozen Clive Cussler novels. In this book, he is the newly promoted Director of NUMA and has married a congresswoman with whom he has had a relationship over several novels. He is described in Black Wind from the point of view of a Filipino government employee, who meets him for the first time. From the Filipino's point of view, Dirk is "nearly a foot taller than his own five-foot-four frame, the NUMA chief carried a tan, lean, muscular body that showed few indications of having spent much time behind a desk...
