Opening in a naval port, Chapter 20 briefly tells about a mishap on the loading dock as a submersible vessel is attempted to be loaded onto a ship called "Baekje." The submersible crashes to the ground after being incorrectly secured. Meanwhile, Dirk Pitt, Jr. lands in Osaka's airport and meets up with his sister, Summer, where they board the NUMA research vessel, the Sea Rover. In a fancy bar in Korea, Kang pressures a reluctant South Korean business owner to support the move to reunite the Koreas. After his meeting, Kang learns from his aide that the submersible vessel was damaged and it would be three weeks before a repair or replacement could be found.
