Chapter 4 Summary
In Japan, the US ambassador to Japan and the British ambassador to Japan are on the golf course. They are strolling toward the green as they talk about different aspects of their job. The British ambassador to Japan congratulates the American ambassador on an economic partnership with Tokyo, and they spent some time talking about politics in Korea. Without warning, the American ambassador is shot and killed. From 600 yards away, the assassin hides his gun, chips his ball out of a sand trap, and putts his ball into the hole. He leaves the golf course, just as the police and ambulance arrives.
Chapter 4 Analysis
The reader cannot be sure of the reason for the assassination. Little detail is given on the work projects that the ambassadors are talking about. What is certain, is that the ambassador's death was well-planned and performed by an expert, which is shown by his excellent shot...
