Chapter 12 Summary

Mr. Slope asks Dr. Harding for a meeting about the wardenship at Hiram's Hospital. He has two motives in this meeting. The first is to assure the Bishop that Dr. Harding was offered the position. The second is to make sure that Dr. Harding refuses the position so that he can offer it to one of his own followers. Mr. Slope outlines many changes the ways that the hospital will be run. In addition to the requirements of the bill from Parliament, he has also tacked on a Sabbath school for local children and will also require the new warden to preach twice at the hospital on Sundays and several times during the week.
