Chapter 10, I beg Your Pardon Summary and Analysis
Anita reads the headline stating that the mayor is holding a gala at White Point Gardens. The public is invited and Anita plans to go. Half the men that will be there she's probably slept with and the rest would know her reputation. She's just been released from prison after the governor of South Carolina decided to pardon her. She puts her long hair into a French twist and puts her cologne in her purse.
Anita still can't believe that the governor pardoned her from all her crimes and all the things she'd done wrong. She wonders how she'll ever be able to thank him. She's never been good with words and she wonders how she'll dare talk to him in person.
Anita arrives at the party and scans the crowd for the governor. She moves through the crowd, trying to spot him. She wonders what she's doing there,...
