Duty

One of the most important themes in "Arrow's Flight" is that of duty since Talia, the main character, is a Herald, and more specifically the Queen's Own. She first demonstrates her regard for duty in her diligent combat training with Alberich and Elspeth, as well as her general concern for Elspeth. Elspeth shows her adherence to duty in training with Alberich and through her desire to be Chosen. When Elspeth is Chosen, Talia handles the arrangements involved with enrolling her in the Collegium. Talia also studies in preparation for the investiture ritual naming Elspeth as Heir. Before her internship officially begins, she learns the Arrow-Code. Talia and Kris demonstrate pride as well as duty during their discussion of the honor and joy of being Chosen.
