Summary

This section introduces readers to the Soria family’s long history as miracle workers and saints. They began as a well-known family of saints living in Oaxaca, Mexico, where they performed miracles for any pilgrim willing to travel to them. However, the Mexican government did not approve of this behavior and, upon the Mexican Revolution, the Soria family was told to leave Mexico or the government would murder them all. The family turned to the Catholic church, but the church shunned them because of the dark miracles the family takes part in. As a result, the Soria family escaped from Mexico and settled in the Colorado desert in a small shanty town called Bicho Raro.
