Summary

In Chapter 1, narrated by Palmer, Palmer’s sister, Alicia, pressed to know if Palmer was going to propose to Josie. Because Palmer was raised in Ponder, Alaska, and home schooled, Palmer felt that he had missed out on social etiquette, especially when it came to romance. Alicia reminded Palmer that he needed to hurry with a proposal because the lodge would be closing and Josie would be returning to her home in Seattle.

Palmer had fallen in love with Josie when she arrived in Ponder to work as the chef in the town’s lodge. Although he had not eaten at the lodge much before Josie arrived, Palmer would join his friend, Jack Corcoran, for dinner so he could see Josie. He took her to see the sights of Alaska, including the Northern Lights.
