Summary

In Chapter 8, when Peter arrives at the Stables the following day, Pepsi has a folder containing a 40-page report that Smiley ordered Peter to write about the removal of Tulip from her home in Berlin. Peter remembers that Smiley had asked him to leave out one detail, one only he, Smiley and four other people knew about.

The report states that Tulip’s husband had begun to suspect that she was photographing the papers he had at home and finally confronted her. She admitted to photographing his papers but said she was doing so in order to win a custody battle against him if they were to separate. Tulip was to attend a meeting of the Domestic Security Soviet with her boss, but Alec ordered her to call in sick and instead go to the rendezvous place. He requested an emergency exfiltration for Tulip...
