Summary

In Chapter 3, Bunny distracts Peter with a less serious operation, but then changes the subject back and tells Peter there must be someone willing to take the blame for what happened with Windfall. Peter pretends to remember something about Windfall, that it was not an operation but instead a bad source. This time Laura is able to prove Peter is lying because she had discovered financial returns submitted by Oliver Lacon concerning Windfall. The two people authorized to talk about the costs of the operation were Smiley and Peter. They had also found out about a safe flat assigned for Windfall as well as a housekeeper and a security officer.

Bunny next tells Peter it is believed a civil lawsuit will be brought against the secret service by Christoph Leamas, Alec’s son and Karen Gold, Elizabeth “Liz” Gold’s daughter. The news...
