Chapter 11, Davos Summary

Ser Davos Seaworth stands and watches as Melisandre has Stannis Baratheon's men burn the statutes of seven gods at Dragonstone as a sacrifice to R'hllor. Any men who tried to stop this are killed or imprisoned. The other lords are unsure about the burning, including Davos, but Davos is extremely loyal to Stannis. Stannis has not only knighted Davos, but also promoted his wife and sons to prestigious positions. Melisandre says there is a prophecy that when a long summer ends and the stars bleed, a legendary hero named Azor Ahai will return. Stannis reaches into a fire in a pyre and pulls out a sword, supposedly Lightbringer, Azor Ahai's sword, and Melisandre claims Stannis is the hero reborn. Stannis cannot hold the sword and drops it and leaves. Davos sees the sword is ruined.
