Summary

The novel takes place in the present day or near future. The story’s geographical location is not stated, but it resembles the wealthy semi-rural suburbs of New England or New York. The narrator is a teenage girl named Eve, nicknamed Evie. Her parents are currently staying in a large, opulent rental house near a lake.
