Summary

In Chapter 18, on August 3, Jake used his omnidirectional microphone to listen in while Oswald agreed to rent the apartment across the street. Oswald's brother tried to persuade him not to do so, but Oswald told his brother he had to get away from his mother. It was only three days before Marguerite found where her son had moved. She brought a high chair and groceries and barrelled her way into the apartment. When Oswald got home his mother was gone but he knew she had been there. He hollered at Marina, shook her, and hit her. Marguerite caused another scene when she visited Oswald and his family the following day. The next day Jake noticed Marina had a fresh black eye.
