Card Games

Students will be divided in to groups of three or four. Each student chooses a character from The Naked and the Dead that were in the card game scene at the beginning of the book. The goups will act out the "card game" scene as the character the have chosen. The other students will guess which character each student is.

Island Model

Using the descriptions in the book, build a model of the island and the troop's camp. Be creative with the materials you use. Some suggestions for materials include, modeling clay, toothpicks, Popsicle sticks, construction paper, fake grass, etc. Give a presentation of your model to the class, describing the layout of the island and the troop's camp site. Discuss various routes taken through the island by the troops as well as were various fights between the troops and the Japanese took place. Display your...
