Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Characters

A Baron - This character is a slightly ridiculous, cynical character; once an aristocrat, now a resident of the lower depths who reminisces on his former status.

A Tartar - This character has little role until the final act, when his hand has been mashed and he has little hope of supporting himself without it.

The Actor - This character is an alcoholic whose addiction has obliterated his memory.

Alyoshka - This character is provocative, often drunk, and tells rumors about people in authority.
