Baking Bread

Baking bread is a big symbol in the novel--the association with the narrator's mother, the return to the simple life, and the associate with the narrator's beginnings with Amanda. Have a student choose a bread recipe and bake it at home. They will detail the bread-making process in a step-by-step description, then bring the finished product in for the class.
