The Wives Overview
In The Wives by Tarryn Fisher, Thursday Ellington’s best friend asks her if they can really know anyone as they talk about a potential victim of abuse. Emotionally manipulated by her boyfriend, as well as her boyfriend’s first wife, Thursday comes to the point where she wonders what the truth really is. Through Thursday’s story, Fisher provides a look inside the mind of the mentally ill, demonstrating that a person sometimes does not even know himself, much less those trying to manipulate his life. Themes in the novel include the stigma of mental illness, Thursday’s reality, and the earmarks of abuse, among others.
