Leigh Bardugo’s Ruin and Rising is the final installment in the Shadow and Bone trilogy. Alina rediscovers her depleted powers and escapes an underground city where she is being kept in seclusion by the Apparat. Together with her friends, Alina joins Prince Nikolai in his mountain lair and they begin plotting how to find the magical firebird and defeat the villainous Darkling who has stolen the crown. However, their best-laid plans go awry, and Alina ends up having to sacrifice more than she anticipated to defeat her enemy and save her country. The novel explores good and evil, religion, courage, love and duty, and friendship.
