Chapters 10-12 Summary

In Chapter 10, Mr. Loomis' illness has returned and he is running a high fever. Ann puts Mr. Loomis to bed and gives him a pair of flannel pajamas her father used to wear. In the morning, Mr. Loomis becomes angry when he wakes and cannot find Ann. Ann puts him back to bed and takes his temperature. It has gone higher. Ann becomes afraid to leave the house in case Mr. Loomis wakes and needs her. Ann takes the tractor and a cart to the store and loads up on all she might need so that she will not have to leave Mr. Loomis again. When she returns, Mr. Loomis is once again upset.
