Point of View

Each of the 10 short stories in the collection is written from a distinct point of view. “Blessed Deliverance” is primarily written from the first person plural point of view. This perspective encompasses the five voices of the “little crew” of friends and main characters (3). Near the end of the story, the narrative shifts into the first person point of view as the one unnamed character begins to grow apart from and identify as an individual outside of his friend group. “The Let-Out” is written from the first person point of view of the unnamed narrator. “Comfort” is written from the third person point of view and is limited to Simone’s perspective for the majority of the short story. In the narrative’s final paragraph, however, the third person narrator turns their attention to Bamboo’s perspective and inhabits his consciousness over Simone’s. In...
