Summary

Dmitrii and Sasha return to the palace and learn from Varvara that Solvey has been killed and Vasya taken by the mob. Dmitrii gathers any men he can to try and save her. Meanwhile, Vasya continues to be the beat as the mob drags her down the hill. Konstantin mocks her without them noticing. They throw her into a chapel where Konstantin says she will die for wronging God and the people. He says the fire in Moscow was her fault, but also says she cursed him long before then. She refuses to beg and he kisses her and leaves. Vasya is pulled into the realm of the death-god Morozko and begs to go with Solovey. Morozko says he has done everything he can and that Vasya must live.
