Summary

“The Life You Save Isn’t Your Own” follows 43-year-old Seema Vektramanan, whose life has been largely characterized by regret. She wanted to marry and be a mother, but she is single, and medical complications have prevented her form becoming pregnant. She works in medical insurance management, which she finds deeply unfulfilling. Her only genuine, enduring interest is art. One day, she decides to purchase a very expensive painting from a gallery, telling herself that it is a monetary investment. On the day that Seema purchases the painting in the gallery, Seema hears a blast and sees an injured child. The boy was inexplicably playing with fireworks in the gallery. The boy is injured but not dead, and there are no other casualties. Seema accompanies the boy in the ambulance to the hospital.
